Arizer Extreme Q Vaporizer Review

Arizer Extreme Q Vaporizer1The Arizer Extreme Q is a probably the best value available for a high-quality vaporizer. The Extreme is a big improvement over cheaper vapes, but it sells for under $200 (less than one-third the price of the Volcano Vaporizer.) The Extreme also has a number of unique features and accessories which place it in a category of its own:

First, the Arizer Extreme  Q comes shipped with both a whip and a set of inflatable bags – thus, you can use either method to inhale your vapor. Second, although the Extreme is primarily meant for in-home use, an optional battery pack allows you to take the Arizer on the road. Third, the unit comes shipped with a remote control.

Another unique feature of the Extreme is the bowl itself, which is made from glass. Many users have commented that the glass gives a better taste to the vapor. The whip attachment also comes with borosilicate glass parts that are thick enough to withstand being dropped. The exterior is made from high quality stainless steel which gives the Arizer a sleek appearance.

In my opinion, all of these positive qualities make the Extreme the best vaporizer available.

DaVinci Vaporizer Review

da vinci vaporizer 1The DaVinci is a handheld pocket vaporizer from Organicix, a company previously known for its Karma e-cigarette. I recently got one and here are my impressions. All in all, I am very impressed. This is a SOLID unit – Nice design, good function. Excellent work for a first herbal vaporizer from an established e-cigarette company.

The DaVinci is very well made. The buttons and switch are strong, with no wiggle. I expect they will hold up well to heavy use. The plastic is thick and solid, like a Pelican case. I doubt it would break open if accidentally dropped. The charger is also heavy and solid – not a “cheapy”. The presentation is nice too –  you get a metal cookie tin box with two foam/velvet trays that hold the unit and charger.

The design is well thought out. There is a tiny brush that has a holder inside the lid. There is also a small compartment with a pop-off lid that you can store your materials in for later use.

In the vape, you have an upper and lower chamber for plant material. There is also a small oil-can for concentrates. The chambers don’t hold much, but if you maxed out both of them I think you’d get a small J’s worth; maybe 1.5-2 solo stems is my guess.

DaVinci Function:

This vape heats up FAST. You can watch it on the LCD – about twice the speed of my Volcano. It produces a decent amount of vapor. The herb in the chamber gets very evenly browned though. So far, with a couple of bowls, not a single black spec. Zero combustion.

Pros:

1. Solid Construction. [Read more...]

Thermovape Vaporizer Review

thermovape vaporizer picture

Thermovape T1

The Thermovape T1 is an innovative new portable vaporizer from Thermo Essence Technologies, a sister company to E-cigarette maker Apex Vapor. At about the size of a large cigar, the T1 is an excellent choice for those looking for a more compact portable vape. The T1 is manufactured in the US by Thermo Essence Technologies, and their attention to detail really shows in the end product – just holding the T1 you can feel the quality work that went into crafting it.

As one of the only pure convection portable vaporizers currently on the market, the T1 provides a very pleasurable vaping experience once you get the hang of it. The hits produced by the T1, while not quite as thick as an Arizer Solo, are some of the best that I have gotten from a portable unit. The flavor of the vapor is as pure as can be and with some practice you can pull some fairly sizable clouds.

At $250, the T1 kit is on the pricey side for a portable but the kit come shipped with:

-  3 sets of high tech LiFE PO4 batteries that run the T1

-  Both a wall and car charger for on-the-go use

After putting a T1 through it’s paces for the last couple months I feel that this is a great portable, although there are a few caveats. The most obvious con is the short battery life – you will be using your charger quite a bit if you are a heavy user because each pair of fully charged batteries will only last for as long as takes to vape one bowl (around 10 hits). However before I list the cons, here’s the positives of this vape: [Read more...]

Volcano Vaporizer Classic Review

Volcano Vaporizer ClassicThe Volcano Vaporizer Classic is a conical vaporizer designed to be to be used with an inflatable bag. In contrast to the Volcano Vaporizer Digit, the Classic has an analog dial for temperature control, instead of a digital display. Accordingly, the Classic is priced lower than the Digit – around $100 less. The operation of the two systems is otherwise exactly the same. Either item comes shipped with Volcano’s Easy Valve system.

The Volcano has the reputation of the best vaporizer, and that’s probably true if you don’t mind paying over $500. It comes at a premium price, but it is a premium product – there’s no question that the Volcano is more reliable and durable than other less expensive vaporizers. This is because the Volcano is made from metal and heat-resistant plastics – it uses only the finest grade aluminum and precision-machined stainless steel.

The Volcano is exclusively manufactured by German company Storz and Bickel and uses patented vaporizer technology. Storz and Bickel actually won an engineering award from the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg in 2003 for their innovative engineering. There’s no question about it: the Volcano is the Cadillac of vaporizers.

Vaporfection Vivape Review – The iPhone Of Vaporizers

Vaporfection Vivape VaporizerOne of the newest vapes to hit the market is the Vaporfection Vivape. The design of this vaporizer is very sleek and modern – it seems clearly inspired by Apple products. The similarity with the iPhone is not just metaphorical – the Vivape is controlled through a touchscreen, and it can be purchased in either black or white. Vaporfection is targeting the higher end of the market, and the price reflects that – it’s currently selling for over $400. This makes it the only vape to approach the price of the Volcano.

The unit is shaped like a rectangular box, with dimensions of 7″ x 5″, it’s about the size of a small cigar box.  Similar to the Arizer Extreme Q, it can be used either with a whip or a bag. This is a rare quality with vaporizers – there are only few others that can use either method. If you prefer using a whip, the added ability to use a bag may not necessarily be a benefit. The company states that the Vivape has an all-glass vapor path – this means that your vapor never comes in contact with heated metal or ceramics. Among vape enthusiasts, glass-on-glass systems are acknowledged to provide the cleanest, best tasting vapor. (I should note that since this vape is new, so far, nobody has actually opened up the unit and examined the internal design).

AtmosRAW Vaporizer Review: It Works Great But It’s Not A Vaporizer

atmos raw 1

The AtmosRAW. Use it at Denny's.

The AtmosRaw is a new portable device from Atmos Technologies. It’s very small and handheld – it has the size and appearance of a pen, or a laser pointer. The model just debuted at the beginning of February and it’s caused a lot of discussion around the web since then. The general verdict: it works great, it’s very well designed, and the warranty is great – but it’s not a vaporizer, it’s an electronic pipe. How do you know? Well, this device is actually combusting (burning) the material. When you take a long draw off it, you wind up inhaling smoke, not vapor. So it’s really an e-pipe. To see the thick smoke clouds produced by the Atmos, check out this short video of a kid using it shirtless while filming in the mirror (you know you want to watch that).

All that being said, if you don’t care about the combustion, the Atmos Raw works great. The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, and most people think it is worth the $200 price tag. Here’s a summary of the most-mentioned points:

1. The unit works really quickly – you press the power button and can hit it within 2 seconds. If you do short hits of 3-4 seconds then you may be vaporizing, but the hits are really weak. For the AtmosRaw to be effective, you have to hit it for 5-9 seconds. At this length, you are combusting your material and you’ll be getting so much smoke it’s almost like a bong rip.

Magic Flight Launch Box Vaporizer Review

Magic Flight Launch Box Amazon 2The Magic Flight Launch Box is unique in the world of vaporizers. It’s probably the smallest, stealthiest vaporizer you can buy, and it is powered by a single AA rechargeable battery. As a result, it doesn’t require butane or electricity to use.  Because of its reasonable price and rave reviews on different forums, the Magic Flight wins the title of Best Vaporizer 2010: Portable.

First of all, this thing is tiny – small enough to fit in your pocket. It works fast – the Magic Flight Launch Box is ready to go literally within seconds. Each charge of the battery is good for about 5 draws from your vaporizer, enough to make you and a friend feel pretty good.

A good demonstration of this vape is this cute chick demonstrating how to use the Magic Flight.

The Magic Flight Launch Box vaporizer comes shipped with two NiMH AA batteries and a battery charger, but the batteries take about 8 hours to recharge between vape sessions. As a result, it’s a good idea to buy a replacement rechargeable battery set. Not to worry – an extra NiMH charger plus batteries can be purchased on Amazon for about sixteen bucks. Remember that the unit does NOT work with a regular Duracell AA battery –  only batteries rated 2000mAh and higher will work. [Read more...]

Arizer Solo Vaporizer Review

The Arizer Solo vaporizer is Arizer’s entry into the rapidly developing field of handheld portable vaporizers. Like Arizer’s flagship Extreme Q Vaporizer, the Solo has received excellent reviews around the online vaporizer forums; in fact, it’s the best new vaporizer released in 2011. To quote Linda from Weed and Bombs,

“I know some of you like the budget vaporizers, but there’s also some of you out there who like the pricey stuff, the well made, the awesomeness… This is the Arizer Solo. You get some nice vapor clouds from this thing. This might be one of my favorite vaporizers ever.”

Like the Magic Flight Launch Box, the Arizer Solo is a portable, battery-powered vape. It has the shape of a small can of Red Bull. It’s solidly constructed, with the external parts made from aluminum and a ceramic heating element. The mouthpiece is made of glass, and two are included with the unit.

The vape is powered by an internal lithium-ion battery that holds 3-4hours of charge.  The internal battery of the Solo differs from that of the Magic Flight, which uses an external battery. The Solo has an external LED display and controls that allow you to set the temperature at intervals from 1-7. It comes with a guide that tells you what actual temperature corresponds to each setting – most users seem to like it between 2 and 3. Setting 2 corresponds to 185° C (365° F) and the settings rise in 5 degree intervals from there, so the max setting of 7 is 210° C. It takes about 60 seconds to reach a temperature at which you can begin to vape; after that it continues to heat and delivers even more vapor.

Silver Surfer Vaporizer Review

Silver Surfer VaporizerThe Silver Surfer vaporizer is manufactured by U.S.-based company 7th Floor, the same company that makes the Da Buddha Vaporizer. 7th Floor manufactures every Silver Surfer vape by hand in Colorado, and the company has been continuously improving its products since opening for business. Since 2007, both the SSV and the DBV have earned loyal followings and positive reviews from vaping enthusiasts.

You may be wondering why the Silver Surfer vaporizer is about $50-$80 more expensive than the Da Buddha Vaporizer. The reason is that the SSV is manufactured, finished, and quality-tested in the United States. The Da Buddha, on the other hand, is manufactured in China, then sent to 7th Floor’s U.S. plant for finishing and quality assurance.

The Silver Surfer vaporizer has a few other features that set it apart. First and foremost is the analog temperature control knob. The knob is made of colored glass, so every one is slightly different. This looks a bit cooler than the plain knob of the Da Buddha. Secondly, the SSV has the ability to add a special aromatherapy diffuser with the purchase of an extra $30 accessory. The diffuser can be used to inhale essential aromatherapy oils at the same time that you are vaping. Third, the vaporizer itself stands at an angle. This is not mere aesthetics: the heater-cover is angled downward, so the wand is attached at an upward angle. Thus, you are less likely to have your herb tumble out of your wand.

Like the DBV, the SSV also comes standard with a high-quality cushioned bag that can be used to inconspicuously carry your vape around. [Read more...]

WISPR Vaporizer Review

The WISPR vaporizer is a new portable vaporizer made by the same company as the Iolite portable vaporizer. It’s not simply an update of the original Iolite; rather, it’s intended to be a higher-end vape that functions more efficiently. Thus, it has a higher price point – currently around $250 as compared to $100 for the original Iolite. Most buyers consider this investment to be well worth it, especially since the company (Oglesby & Butler) provides a 2-year warranty and are very good about honoring it.

The original Iolite has both devoted fans and critics around the online vaporizer forums.  In particular, some users mentioned a butane taste, and many buyers found that the plastic mouthpieces often broke. Neither of these problems was excessive, and the great majority of purchasers are still very happy with their Iolites. However, the company has addressed these issues with the new  vaporizer. The main features of the WISPR as compared to the Iolite are:

WISPR Vaporizer Review1. The WISPR has a cool, squared-shaped retro design as compared to the ‘walkie-takie’ shape of the original

2. The herb chamber is larger

3. The mouthpiece is foldable plastic (actually heat-resistant silicon) so it can’t break

4. While both vapes use butane as their fuel source, the WISPR has a fuel-level window so you can see how much butane is left

5. The WISPR comes in a variety of different of colors, just like the Iolite. The company has given amusing names to the new colors such as Pistachio Green, Espresso Brown, and Oyster Blue.

WISPR Vaporizer Reviews From Buyers

After its debut in mid-2011, the WISPR received very positive reviews, although a few buyers had problems with the ignition system. However, every person that received a malfunctioning vape was able to use the 2-year warranty and get a completely new replacement unit. Although the company is based in Ireland, they have a warranty depot in Canada; you simply ship your defunct unit there, and the company sends a new one. The drawback is that is takes about 3 weeks to get the new unit.

Most users liked the silicon foldaway mouthpiece. One of the main criticisms of the original Iolite was that plastic mouthpiece was susceptible to breaking. The company addressed this issue by adding the soft mouthpiece to the new vape. While this is a benefit for most users, some people don’t like the rubber texture of the soft mouthpiece, and actually prefer to draw through hard plastic. If this is the case, you might actually like the original Iolite better. [Read more...]

VapeXhale Cloud Review – A new vaporizer two years in the making

vapexhale cloud 1For any big vaporizer enthusiast, the VapeXhale Cloud from VapeXhale Labs is probably the most anticipated vaporizer in history. After two years of an open-book style approach to developing and marketing this new toy, and repeated delays and failed launches, Cloud pre-orders finally began delivery in March 2012!  VapexHale Labs, a small group of like-minded vapor enthusiasts based in California, have released what could be a game changer in the vaporizer industry.

The Cloud was developed from the ground up to provide an all-glass, moisture conditioned vapor in an ergonomic form.  It has achieved this with the glass hydratube, which sits on top of the Cloud’s 18mm male joint.  These hydratubes are just the perfect size and form for vapor, and hold the optimum amount of water and effectively diffuse the vapor to provide cooling and filtering.  There are various hydratubes in production and I was able to test and review the Hydracirc, which I was very impressed with in both quality and function.  At this time the Cloud only sells mated with a hydratube for $449, although it can be used with any glass with an 18mm female connection (adapter/joint may be required).  In the future VapexHale Labs will be selling the Cloud without hydratubes as well.

This vaporizer is about 6″ tall and the hydracirc is about 8″, and it has a nice long 10 foot cord.  It’s very simple in design and has a glass tube that takes fresh air from the bottom, heats it through the hot glass tube, passes it through a stainless steel mesh Easy Load Bowl (ELB), and into the hydratube.  It feels quite solid and sturdy in the hand, and would be classified as a home desktop vaporizer, however it isn’t so stationary that it couldn’t easily be brought from one room to another or to transported with a case.

The Cloud takes about 10 minutes to get to operating temp.  The on/off switch is a simple toggle, and it automatically shuts off after an hour.  Whenever you load an easy load bowl, you don’t need to wait to “preheat” the flowers whatsoever, your first inhalation provides rich satisfying vapor, every time.  This is so refreshing for ease of use as many vaporizers require some sort of pre-heat to the flowers.  The Cloud is a master of extraction and will even extract and produce satisfying vapor at very low temps, including 7-am to 9am on the dial, and will not combust at max temp.  It extracts quite quickly and the ease of use and one-handed operation can’t be beat. The Cloud produces some of the richest, tastiest, fullest, satisfying clouds I’ve ever seen and tasted.

vapexhale cloud 2After being able to test and review this beast for a couple of weeks, I am simply floored and it is quite difficult to find any cons with the Cloud.  The warranty is one year, which in comparison to some of the others in the industry is lacking.  Understandably it is a brand new product, but at $449 some may find that off-putting.  This could very well change in the future, but as of now it has room for improvement. The unit itself can also get very hot with prolonged usage, although I never really felt it to be a big concern. It also sounds like a rapidly ticking clock which may or may not be annoying to some.  These are all very minor details when looking at the overall picture of what a fantastic new piece of technology this really is.

You can order a VapeXhale Cloud from www.vapexhale.com, although it’s not certain how long delivery will take.  This vaporizer has impressed me tremendously and I can’t wait to see what else VapeXhale Labs has up their sleeves.  Kudos VXL, you have lived up to the hype!

Iolite Walkie Talkie Vaporizer Review

walkie talkie vaporizer review purple AmazonThe Iolite vaporizer stands out for its unique appearance: it looks remarkably like a walkie talkie vaporizer! Thus, it can be used relatively discreetly. Casual observers may think you are communicating with a friend, when you are actually trying to kiss the sky. Iolite has clearly put a lot of thought into creating an aesthetic design for the product – it is available in a variety of colors including white, orange, purple, and ‘tie-dye’. The Iolite was, in fact, the vaporizer featured on the Showtime series Bored to Death. Ten Danson’s character was quite fond of it.

Iolite has been making combustion butane products since the early 1980s, so the design of their vaporizer is excellent. The plastic is a heat-resistant grade designed for use at high temperatures. The device uses an octagonal herb chamber, which slides snugly into the heating chamber. When the user draws air through the herb chamber, external air is drawn past the heating element. This action preheats the air before it hits the herb, for less cooling of the material as you draw. The catalytic butane heater and precision thermostat heat the herb enough for vaporization, but does not burn the material. The device works rapidly, so there’s little waiting in between pulls for heat-up or cool down.

The Iolite vaporizer is actually quite small – it’s about the same size as a typical smartphone. Each fill of the butane gas lasts for 2 hours of continuous vaporization. The operation of the unit is simple – flick the switch, hit the igniter, and draw up your vapor. The unit can be operated continuously for about 15 minutes until your material is fully vaporized. Each fill of the butane fuel lasts for 2 hours of burn time before a refill is required. [Read more...]
